Polar bear

I made a polar bear in textiles. I chose the fabric because it looked very nice and it was soft and it looked very wintery. It took one and a half months to do the polar bear because I concentrated and didn't rush it. The beginning was easy because I had to trace the pattern and cut them. Then put them together and stuff them. But then at the end where I had to add the ears, nose, eyes and put everything together was a bit tricky. Because the ears needed to be in a good place otherwise it would've looked weird.

The nose at the end was hard because it needed to be tight and when sewing the thread had to be extremely close to the end of the fabric of the nose. When I put all the body parts together, I think I put them too tight so it made the bear look very thin. The head at the end was very flat. But I think the polar bear now looks cute and I like how I made it :)

5.luokkalaiset ovat tekstiilijakson aikana kokeilleet 

erilaisia kankaan värjäys- ja kuviontitapoja. 

Solmuvärjäystekniikoin tehdystä kankasta tehtiin 

vetoketjullinen ja tereellinen tyynynpäällinen.

During the textile lessons 5th graders have been

 practicing how to paint and dye fabric. 

Tie dyed fabrics were used to make 

pillow cases with piping and zipper.

7. luokkalaiset suunnittelivat ja valmistivat neulatyynyjä syksyn ensimmäisenä työnä. Samalla harjoiteltiin suunnittelun ja valmistuksen dokumentointia ipadeillä.

Tote bags

We decided to make canvas bags as a nice and simple project. We started by searching for quote and picture ideas on the internet. We wanted something quite sassy and memorable, but still something that looks cool.

We had a sample canvas bag, that was bought from an actual store, so figuring out the measurements was no problem. We consulted our teacher on how to sew the straps, but otherwise we cut out the fabrics and sewed them ourselves.To ensure the durability, our straps are folded 4 times.

Many of us tie-dyed the bag before putting the prints.

The prints were a struggle, because there was a lot of confusion on how to iron the prints on the fabric. Some had to be ironed the wrong way (so like a mirror image), and some letters had to be cut out of the printed paper very carefully, so the color of the paper wouldn't show on the textile. Some of us failed a lot at this phase, and had to do things again.

We had originally planned for the bags to take only one or two lessons, but we failed at planning, mainly because the printing took so long and  it was so problematic. In the end, the whole project took around three months to complete. Some of us are satisfied, and some feel like there is room for improvement. Many of us use the bags daily.

Paperin kehräys ja valopallot

 Kehräsimme 5.lk ja 6.lk oppilaiden kanssa paperia paperinaruksi. Käytimme paperina vanhoja kaava-arkkeja. Parityönä tämä onnistui todella hyvin. Värttinänä käytettiin cd-levyistä ja pyöreästä puupuikosta tehtyä härveliä.

Kehrätystä paperinarusta teimme vesi-ilmapallojen päälle, naurua käärien palloja. Paperinarua oli ensin uitettu liimavesiseoksessa. Liiman kuivuttua ilmapallot puhkaistiin ja poistettiin kovettuneiden pallojen sisältä. 

 Nämä valmiit pallot tulivat ledvaloihin, jotka koristavat joulujuhlissa salimme sisäänkäyntiä. Yhteensä palloja valmistui noin 100. Ja paperinarua kehräsimme yhteensä noin 100 metriä.

Kassit

3.luokan ensimmäisenä ompelutyönä oppilaat valmistivat painetut kassit. Kuviot suunniteltiin käyttäen avuksi geometrisia muotoja. Kankaanpainoon valmistauduttiin suojaamalla kankaat maalarinteipillä kuvioiden mukaisesti.
